TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
BOBBY LASHLEY

Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a man who has achieved a great deal in several athletic endeavors, yet thirsts for more and greater accomplishments.

Bobby Lashley won three national amateur wrestling championships from 1996-1998, while also becoming the NAIA National Wrestling Champion in the final two years of that reign. Having thus become one of the most successful collegiate wrestlers in history, Lashley capitalized on his success and became a superstar in the WWE.

While I won’t list any scripted WWE belts as formal athletic accomplishments, it is quite noteworthy that for years, Lashley met the rigorous performance, athletic and bodybuilding requirements of a WWE star.

However, a true competitor of Lashley’s nature could not be permanently satisfied with faux fights for the remainder of his prime, and so he took on some professional risk and a significant paycut to test himself at the highest level once again.

While many a professional wrestler has hinted and bluffed that he might one day transition to mixed martial arts, Bobby Lashley is one of the few to put his money where his mouth is and train properly, acquired skills in the various disciplines of martial arts, and step into the cage to fight for real.

And he has done so with humility and the attitude of a potential champion, not wishing to be fast-tracked to big events on the shoulders of his WWE fame. He has been developing his skills and working his way up through smaller shows, doing his best to ensure that he will be ready for the big stage when he finds himself there.

To date, Lashley is undefeated in his MMA career, with a record of 4-0 and notable victories over Bob Sapp and Jason Guida.
