TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
CHRIS TUCHSCHERER

Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a man who, like previous training inspiration Ed Herman, lost his match at UFC 102 but walked away a victor with the fans by showing a great deal of heart in the face of adversity.

Squaring off against former UFC heavyweight title contender Gabriel Gonzaga, Chris Tuchscherer had a tall order to face under the best of circumstances. However, just seconds into the bout, the worst of circumstances came into play.

Gonzaga is known for having some of the most devastating kicks in mixed martial arts. His high kick left MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop an unconscious mass of twisted of flesh in one of his previous UFC matches.

And one of these baseball-bat-style kicks struck Tuscherer right in the groin, crumpling him to the ground where, as the crowd grimaced in sympathetic pain, Tuscherer writhed as a bucket had to be brought out as he hacked and coughed.

In the event of injury-causing fouls, the victim is given five minutes to determine if he can continue. It took the crippled Tuscherer the full five minutes, but he went on with a match that the ringside commentators had immediately determined to be over just moments after the sickening impact.

Meanwhile, Gonzaga paced on the opposite side of the cage like a starving and angry bear.

Tuscherer picked himself up and resumed the fight. What followed was basically that he beat into a pulp, but the mere act of continuing the fight was an impressive accomplishment. He took one of Gonzaga’s destructive kicks square to the head and continued to battle with his opponent until the fight was eventually stopped by the referee.

But Tuscherer kept fighting until they wouldn’t let him anymore…
