TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
DAVE SCHULTZ
Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a man who provided a year of the toughest hockey the NHL has ever seen.
We have, in the past, honored Tiger Williams for his NHL record of nearly 4,000 career minutes over his career, and single-game record-holders Jim Dorey and Randy Holt.
Today we recognize Dave Schultz, the abrasive backbone of the “Broad Street Bullies” Philadelphia Flyers of the 1970s, who in 1974-75 set an NHL record of 472 penalty minutes in a single season.
Dave Schultz was known as “the Hammer” for a reason. Over nine NHL seasons, he led the league in penalties four times, and twice crossed the 400-minute mark.
And he wasn’t too bad of a hockey player either. He had a 20-goal season and over 535 games he scored 79 goals and 200 points. He also won two Stanley Cups with the Flyers.
His 2,294 career penalty minutes presently have him at 34th on the all-time list. He also recorded another 412 minutes in his 73 playoff games.

TODAY: DAY OFF!
Well, it’s not like I’ve been training in such a beastly fashion that a day off is an absolute necessity at the moment, but it wouldn’t hurt either. I’ll save up the energy and come back at it tomorrow, Dave Schultz style.
