TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
EVANDER HOLYFIELD

To the right today is a man who, despite having his enduring career become laughable to some, remains an inspiration with respect to training ethic and continually giving nothing less than 100% when it comes time to compete.

Looked down upon by many for continuing to pursue the heavyweight title to this day (now in his late 40s), Holyfield is being judged not so much for an inability to box competitively, but more for a failure to live up to the ring heroics he produced during his physical prime.

These heroics made him a world heavyweight champion several times, with courageous victories over Riddick Bowe and Mike Tyson, among many others.

To this day, despite no longer being among the handful of top heavyweights in the world, and despite the fact that he is not getting any more articulate from the continuing barrage of punches to the head he is receiving, he is nonetheless (at an age when many men are giving up recreational sports) a competitive professional boxer.

His enduring career is due far less to the blessings of god-given talent than it is to his lionhearted approach to fighting and to his relentless training and conditioning.

With that in mind…we’ll take it pretty easy today.

TRAINING NOTE

Well, it feels kind of like cheating or pussing out by doing a workout and not giving it 100% every time, but that is evidently not the recipe for proper distance training…so I just did a 10K at 7.5 mph today, pretty much the slowest run I’ve done but again, enough to qualify as keeping the system progressing.
