TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
GILLIAN APPS
Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a woman who has taken a strong legacy created by her family in men’s professional hockey, and extended it to become one of the greatest players in the women’s game.
Gillian Apps is the granddaughter of Hockey Hall of Famer Syl Apps, and daughter of NHL great Syl Apps Jr.
The third in a line of great hockey players, she will almost assuredly be admitted to several sports Halls of Fame when her playing days are done.
Gillian recently won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, playing hockey for Team Canada. It was her second straight Olympic gold, having also emerged victorious at Turin in 2006.
She has won medals at five of the last six World Championships, with two golds and three silvers representing her country.
Entering her prime at age 26, Apps is going to be one of Team Canada’s central figures in the next few Olympiads, as Canada looks to achieve a string of ice hockey golds reminiscent of the Vladislav Tretiak-led Soviet men’s team of the 1970s and 1980s.
