TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
HAYLEY WICKENHEISER

For inspiration today, we look to the Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders of women’s sports, except that in one of these sports, Hayley Wickenheiser has established herself as quite possibly the greatest of all-time.

Canadian dual-sport athlete Hayley Wickenheiser (hockey and softball) has represented her country in both sports at the Olympic Games.


In softball, she played for Team Canada at the 2000 Games, while she also competed in the World Junior Fastball Championships.

In ice hockey, her accomplishments may well be unparalleled. In the World Championships and Olympics combined, she has played 52 games to date, scoring 41 goals and 95 points.

She has two Olympic gold medals and one silver, and at the World Championships, a remarkable six golds and two silvers.

She also became the first woman to ever score a goal in a men’s professional league, while playing for HC Salamat in Finland.

As more and more women undertake competitive hockey as a career option, they can thank pioneers such as Wickenheiser for blazing the trail.
