TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
LEE HANEY

When asked who is the greatest and most dominant bodybuilder of all time, virtually everyone will quickly respond with the name Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And as much as this may be true, it is worth noting that Arnold won the Mr. Olympia competition a total of seven times (six in a row and then his seventh when he came out of retirement for a one-competition affair several years later).

Lee Haney, however, cemented his name among the all-time greats when he bested Arnold’s career mark with eight Mr. Olympia championships, all of them back-to-back. From 1984 to 1991, Lee Haney was the undisputed champion of the world bodybuilding circuit, as bankable for a victory as Arnold had been. Like Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney retired on top.

Also like Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney served as the Chairman of the President’s Council on Fitness and Sports under Bill Clinton, filling the post once it was vacated by Arnold.

In addition to his record string of Mr. Olympia titles, Haney also holds victories in the Night of Champions (1983) and Grand Prix Las Vegas (1983), World Amateur Championsips (1982) and Teen Mr. America (1979).

Haney is largely credited with today’s focus on proper back development, as this had been an area that had received less attention and muscular development in the earlier years of bodybuilding.
