It was 1983 when Australian vocalist David Sterry fronted the band Real Life and exploded onto the pop scene with a song that would enjoy both international success and great longevity as both a relevant source of remixes and a retro favorite. The song: Send Me an Angel.

The song was the flagship single from their debut album Heartland. The LP featured an array of catchy songs, included among them their follow-up single Openhearted. This collection of tracks made for a strong and quintessentially 80s synth-pop record.
Send Me an Angel was also included in the soundtrack for the 1986 teen BMX movie Rad. This film, which starred Talia Shire of Rocky and The Godfather fame, was largely forgotten in the intervening years. However, with the uprise of the internet, a small but enthusiastic movement was spawned to push for a DVD re-release of the film, in order to give hungry viewers their 80s nostalgia fix.
The song was re-released in 1989 with some slight changes, and it once again began a climb up the charts.
To this day, Real Life continues to tour. Despite having updated their sound more along the lines of modern techno, their bread and butter comes from playing the classics as a retro act, appearing in such festivals as The Lost 80s Tour.
