I kinda agree with Grinningdog. It sounds like you have a lot of ego. Congrats on setting a goal and accomplishing it, however its not much of an accomplishment if it was so easy as to go out and "just do it". It would be more impressive if you had trained and actually finished something you had to work for.

I think this is a great achievement. As you aptly point out, lack of preparation may not have been the best course to take. It is still pretty impressive that you were able to meet both of your goals. As for the music, techno definitely seems like the upbeat motivating type of music necessary to propel one forward. Thanks for contributing this article to the Athletic Alley Blog Carnival.

Grinning Dog, I think you have misunderstood my motives for running the marathon. What can I say. You can't please everyone.

Impressive stuff, good to be young. :)

Now that you know you can do it, train for one and feel the rush of being in a crowd of a few thousand other runners. It's a fantastic feeling to show up on that start line knowing you've done the miles, you've tapered, and now you're at your peak physical shape and ready to throw down the fastest 42.2km you have in you...

Congratulations on completing your first marathon, with the bonus of keeping it within your goal time! I believe that almost anyone who is reasonably fit can complete a marathon if they set their mind to it. Um, thanks for taking the severe pains to demonstrate that.

When I trained for my own marathon I realized that I was not just training to complete the distance - I was training to survive the act with as little discomfort or residual recovery from injury or illness as possible. Plus I wanted a smiling finish line photo.

I also tried using the training to teach myself to LIKE running long distances on flat pavement. It didn't work, but I discovered how much I really prefer shorter distances on trails!

This is pretty amazing when you consider how much support there is for a normal, sanctioned marathon. Back in the day, they ran with only water but I think now you see why some electrolytes probably help, especially in the latter stretch.

And, your comment on my blog makes perfect sense now that I see how nicely you connect your music to your workouts. I'm more of an electronica kinda gal and highly recommend Ratatat's "Seventeen Years" or, my current fave, Walter Meego's "Forever."
