<p>Ken Read was a five-time Canadian ski champion, and twice competed in the Winter Olympics for his country.</p>
<p>In 1975, he won at Val D’Isere, and became not only the first Canadian but the first North American to win a World Cup downhill event.</p>
<p>He won multiple events in both 1978 and 1980, and in 1978 was given the Lou Marsh Award as the top athlete in all of Canada.</p>
<p>In 1991 for both his work on the slopes and his efforts to inspire young athletes and advance their development, he was named to the Order of Canada.</p>
