It would be remiss not to mention the recent passing (Jan. 14, 2009) of the venerable 88-year-old actor Ricardo Montalban.

With an acting career that began in the early 1940s and a body of work that spanned decades and even millennia, Montalban left the world of cinema with his imprint clearly stamped upon it. He guested on TV shows from Mission Impossible to Columbo and starred in Fantasy Island.

He might be best remembered to many as Khan, the ambitious villain from Star Trek 2, which was a reprisal of a role created by his guest appearance on the TV series in the 1960s.

This film is remembered by most as the best film of the 2,000 or so Star Trek movies that have been made, not only for its legitimately touching storyline but by the charisma and vengeance Montalban brought to his role. He undoubtedly created the most memorable and relatable villain among the vast array of evil aliens presented by the innumerable and long running Star Trek franchises.

Hollywood has lost another good one.

Below is the theatrical trailer for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
