TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
TOM ATENCIO

Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a man who is not only taking on a Herculean task in building an MMA organization whose events rival those of the juggernaut UFC, but is also walking the walk and stepping into the cage as a fighter himself.

At the age of 42, Tom Atencio stepped into the cage for his second professional MMA fight and emerged victorious with a record of 2-0. Already a highly successful and accomplished businessman through his work as the vice president of Affliction, a top clothing manufacturer and fighting event promoter, Atencio is not fighting because he needs the money.

Nor is he fighting necessarily for his ego, as he is happy to remain on the undercard of smaller events than would qualify for a UFC or Affliction pay per view card.

The man loves the sport, loves to challenge himself, loves to be tested and wants the best possible understanding of the sport he promotes.

With his victory over Randy Hedderick, Atencio showed that he has been taking his training and the sport seriously, and he competed at a very high level for, essentially, a 42-year-old rookie. It is difficult to do anything but respect those who seek out challenges, seek out activity, maintain a high level of fitness and take risks to advance their knowledge and achievements.

Today was a pretty sad workout. I was in transit all day and really just did abs so I wouldn’t have to log another day off.
