TODAY’S TRAINING INSPIRATION:
TERRY ETIM

Today’s Colin Timberlake Training Inspiration is a man who was worked his way up through the British MMA scene to become one of the UFC’s most promising lightweight prospects.

As of today, Terry Etim sports an impressive professional MMA record of 13-2 (with 11 of his wins coming by knockout or submission). As well, his only two loses have come against very notable competition in Rich Clementi and Gleison Tibeau.

However, what makes Terry Etim inspirational today is not so much his prowess in the Octagon or his promise as a lightweight contender, but the heart and will he displayed recently at UFC 99 against Justin Buchholz.

In the first round, Etim was not only knocked down by Buchholz but sustained a broken nose. And when I say broken, I mean Rich Franklin vs. Anderson Silva broken. Many a quality MMA fighter has had the pain and breathing impediments associated with a broken nose put an end to their match, either by affect their ability to mount an offense (such as Gabriel Gonzaga in his loss to the great Randy Couture) and there wouldn’t be any shame in Etim having quit on his stool with the facial damage he had sustained in round one.

That said, he came out to win in round two and it was only two minutes and thirty-eight seconds later when he had secured a D’Arce Choke on Buchholz and forced him to submit, earning a very memorable victory and putting on a spectacular display of breaking through the pain barrier.
